Smith, Sherwood - Crown Duel

Page history last edited by Annie 15 years, 5 months ago

Smith, Sherwood - Crown Duel : 224 pages, © 1997

Meliara and her brother swore to their dying father that they would overthrow the unjust king and bring justice to their land. But with a vastly outnumbered army and no allies, they know it's just a matter of time before they're tracked down. Then Meliara is captured. With threats of death, torture, and worse hanging over her head, she endeavors to escape and rally allies to her cause.

Red Flags:

Some battle violence, but nothing graphic.  Some character deaths, but not lingered on.  One character is threatened with torture at one point.

Sequels:

Court Duel

A Stranger to Command (prequel, but suggest reading it after Crown Duel and Court Duel to avoid spoilers)

Readalikes:

The Privilege of the Sword by Ellen Kushner

Anything by Tamora Pierce

The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley

By the Sword by Mercedes Lackey
