Morrow, James - The Philosopher's Apprentice : 432 pages, © 2008
Following his failed Ph.D. thesis, philosophy student Mason Ambrose accepts a mysterious job on a private island, tutoring the anmesiac daughter of Edwina Sabacthani, a brilliant geneticist. His job: provide seventeen-year-old Londa with a conscience. But Mason soon discoveres that Londa is not the only child on the island, nor is he the only tutor. Unraveling the real motives behind Edwina's plans is only the beginning in thos book that runs the gamut of emotions, and walks the line between literary, thriller, and science fiction.
Red Flags:
While the book doesn't actively promote liberal ideals, it takes a strongly negative stance on certain conservative ideas, abortion first among them. Sometime graphic and disturbing images are described, with strong terminology throughout. Sex, language, cloning, torture, and self-inflicted harm also appear.
